Gimme 5: A Fantastic Alternative for Recycling #5 Plastics

Wondering what to do with those #5 plastics (yogurt containers, plastic take out food containers, prescription pill bottles, etc)?  Maybe you have a curbside recycling program in your area that accepts them, but unfortunately we don’t have that luxury where I live.  Recently though I discovered a program called Gimme 5 (as in #5 plastics) that allows the rest of us to recycle #5s too.

Gimme 5 is an outreach program of Preserve, a company that creates new eco friendly products out of recycled  #5 plastics.  Preserve’s website is full of information and the FAQ section answers great questions such as ” What #5s do you/don’t you accept?” and  “My community collects #5s. Why would I want to save them and give them to Preserve?”  Preserve’s Gimme 5 program makes it easy to recycle #5 plastics by partnering with retailers who maintain drop off bins or giving you the option of mailing your #5 plastics directly to them.   Though it wasn’t of interest to me, they also offer a recycling rewards program through Recyclebank.

Click here to learn more about Preserve, their products and how you can make a difference by recycling your #5 plastics with them.
